Hi! - I’m Dr. Kathleen Reinhardt. I am an evolutionary anthropologist and scientific illustrator.

I’m currently based at the University of Calgary in Canada, where I’m a Postdoctoral Fellow in Transdisciplinary Research with the Faculty of Arts. I’m a member of the Chronobiology Lab in the Department of Psychology and the Human Evolutionary Energetics Lab in the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology.

My research stands at the intersection of ecology, evolution, and physiology, with a particular focus in topics of sleep and circadian rhythms. Using methods in chronobiology and anthropology, my ultimate research goal is to understand the costs and benefits of sleep in relation to changing ecology (physical and social), and how it attributes to variations in health and well-being. I approach these questions through the lenses of behavioral ecology and evolutionary mismatch, examining sleep broadly across the primate order - from wild non-human primates to contemporary humans.

In addition to my research, I am also a Science illustrator, working with scientists and NGOs to represent their work, with the aim of effective science communication and outreach. These services range from creating digital figures for scientific publications, to species identification drawings and children’s books.
